Literature Text

He was a witch.
Not a protective amulets, love potions
I’m going to cast a spell on you, witch.
He was one that didn’t believe
In magic.
But things got done
And that was almost the same.

Modern though, he was.
Behind computer screens and charming smiles
Late nights and a shell of false confidence
As the days
                         b l e d
                                                          b y.

Everything in its cycle
Everything in its place.
He thought he understood these things,
His heart beat synced to his hard drive, spinning.
It wasn’t magic.

So he took a chance on a stranger
A string of gun powder black text.
Modern.
They both were.

Mirrored images over 700 kilometers
Shadowed minds, by themselves but never alone.
Text, gun powder black.
They exploded.

Fractal patterns matching,
From text to screen.
Pixelated videos and voices lost to the static.
Computer screens and charming smiles.
Modern? Perhaps they were.

But before he hung up the call
With his heart beat synced to his hard drive, spinning
He said, “I love you.”
He didn’t believe in magic.
But this was almost the same thing.
This wasn't the poem I set out to write, and I blame you for that.
